  8. Congratulations on your purchase of the Canon Color Bubble Jet Printer 
  9. BJC-600.  We are sure you'll appreciate its exceptional print quality 
  10. using both color and black inks, flexible paper handling, fast printing 
  11. speed, and trouble-free operation.

  13. As with most software and hardware products,  information is made available 
  14. after the development of the manual.  Updated information regarding the 
  15. BJC-600 is provided in this readme file.  Should the information in this 
  16. readme file be inaccurate or you require further explanation,  please

  20. Printing Envelopes
  21. ==================
  22. When printing envelopes with the BJC-600 and the auto-sheet feeder, move 
  23. the paper thickness selection lever on the auto-sheet feeder to the forward 
  24. position. This will result in the best paper handling for envelopes. Also, 
  25. make sure to print with the option 'Print Current Page' or set the print 
  26. range to be from '1' to '1'. This will ensure that the application will 
  27. not prompt you to insert a second envelope after printing.

  30. Windows System Options
  31. ======================
  32. When setting up your Windows system to print with the BJC-600, please 
  33. consider the following options to optimize your printing performance.
  34.  
  35. . Fast Printing Direct to Port: This option, available from within Printers 
  36.   in the Windows Control Panel, should always be ON for best printing results.
  37.  
  38. . Use DOS 5.0 or higher & HIMEM command to make 620 K of 'real' memory 
  39.   available.
  40.  
  41. . Ensure a minimum of 4 to 8MB of permanent Windows SWAPFILE.
  42.  
  43. . Increase your RAM memory to more than 8MB. Increasing RAM memory will 
  44.   result in faster printing and reduce compatibility problems with 
  45.   applications. If you must print in a low memory situation, and are having 
  46.   problems with you application, try turning off screen-matched color or 
  47.   reducing resolution to correct the problem.

  50. Operation under Windows 3.0
  51. ===========================
  52. If you are installing the BJC-600 driver under Windows 3.0 and you wish
  53. to use its on-line help, you need to manually copy a newer version of the
  54. file WINHELP.EXE from the BJC-600 Installation diskette to your Windows 
  55. directory.  For instance, if your Windows directory is C:\WINDOWS and 
  56. your BJC-600 Installation diskette is in drive A:, under DOS you would type:

  58.         copy a:\winhelp.exe c:\windows
  59.  
  60. Alternatively, you can use the Windows file manager to copy this file.

  63. Application Notes
  64. =================
  65. This section contains the latest information about using your BJC-600 
  66. with various Windows application programs. 
  67.

  69. Corel Draw 3.1 (Corel Corp.)
  70. If a print job is canceled from within Corel Draw 3.1, an extra page may 
  71. be ejected from the printer after the canceled job is ejected.

  74. Excel 4.0 (Microsoft)
  75. In Excel, changes to the Page Setup in the Print menu do not take effect 
  76. immediately. After closing Page Setup, re-open the dialog box and select 
  77. the same options again to ensure that Excel recognizes the change and 
  78. implements it.

  81. Freelance Graphics 1.0 (Lotus Development Corp.)
  82. When printing grayscale documents from Freelance, gradients used in the 
  83. document may appear as solid colors. This is due to a problem in 
  84. Freelance 1.0.

  87. Image-In 3.1a (Image-In Corp.)
  88. When printing .bmp images from Image-In 3.1a, the file may be printed 
  89. upside down when Portrait orientation is selected. When printing from 
  90. Image-In and using the Fit to Page option and Landscape orientation, 
  91. some horizontal lines may appear in the output. Try scaling the image 
  92. with the BJC-600 driver rather than using Fit to Page.

  94. IntelliDraw 1.0 (Aldus Corp.)
  95. When printing with IntelliDraw in low memory conditions, IntelliDraw may 
  96. cause a general protection fault error. Try increasing the RAM memory to 
  97. greater than 4MB.

  100. Persuasion 2.0 (Aldus Corp.)
  101. When printing multiple copies from within Persuasion, a white line may 
  102. appear across the page. This is due to the fact that the application is 
  103. not correctly communicating with the printer driver about how to print 
  104. multiple pages.

  106. PhotoStyler 1.1a (Aldus Corp.)
  107. When printing using the Fit to Page option within PhotoStyler, the bottom 
  108. and right sides of the document may sometimes be cut off. Try scaling the 
  109. image with the BJC-600 driver rather than using Fit to Page. Also, multiple 
  110. copies cannot be printed from within PhotoStyler. Each copy must be printed 
  111. individually. This is due to the fact that the application is not correctly 
  112. communicating with the printer driver about how to print multiple pages.

  114. PhotoFinish 2.0 (ZSoft)
  115. PhotoFinish has an option within its printer setup called 'Use PhotoFinish 
  116. halftone'. This option should not be used with the BJC-600 printer. 
  117. Always select 'Use Printer's Halftone' when printing from PhotoFinish.
  118.  
  119. Picture Publisher 3.1 (Micrografx)
  120. When printing a color image from Picture Publisher using Black & White 
  121. print mode within the BJC-600 driver, the Intensity control does not 
  122. function. This is due to a problem in Picture Publisher.

  125. Ventura Publisher 4.01 (Ventura)
  126. When importing PCX files into Ventura, the file will be printed as 
  127. grayscale even if it contains color data. This is due to a problem with 
  128. Ventura Publisher 4.01.

  131. Word 2.0 (Microsoft Corp.)
  132. When printing envelopes from Word 2.0, the message 'The margins of section 
  133. 1 are set outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?' 
  134. may appear. Click OK and the envelope will print correctly.

  136. WordPerfect 5.2 (WordPerfect Corp.)
  137. When printing with WordPerfect in low memory conditions, some graphic 
  138. elements may not appear on the printed page that are present in the 
  139. document or they may print as grayscale rather than color. This can be 
  140. solved by lowering the resolution of the print, lowering the color depth, 
  141. turning off screen-matched color, or increasing the RAM memory of your 
  142. computer.
  143. The message 'The Windows printer driver did not accept the requested paper 
  144. size. Document will print on paper size the printer did not select.' may 
  145. appear when printing envelopes from WordPerfect. The envelope will still 
  146. print correctly.
  147.  
  148. Works 2.0 (Microsoft)
  149. Due to a problem within the printing mechanism of Works, make sure you 
  150. change the BJC-600's print resolution and Landscape/Portrait orientation 
  151. using Printers from the Control Panel. If Works is launched, and the 
  152. resolution or orientation is changed from within Works, the output from 
  153. the BJC-600 will not be correct.
